Ancient yoga once offered people a complete philosophical approach to life. It was taught and practised like an education, providing a range of tools and lessons from which to grow. For some this meant a lifetimes work in the journey to enlightenment, wisdom and becoming at one with oneself, your soul and spirit – for others simply a chance of good health and happiness.

Many modern yoga classes focus on hatha yoga, where physical postures (asanas) are used to improve fitness, flexibility and tone. What some fail to embrace are some of the other elements of traditional yoga which have also been benefitting people’s health and wellbeing for thousands of years, such as pranayama (breath work) and meditation. This is something being brought back into the forefront of yoga in the western world through a revival in traditional yogic teachers, from traditions such as Rishiculture Ashtanga Yoga.
